Dunamon Recreation Masterplan

Roscommon County Council is currently facilitating the development of a Recreation Strategy for County Roscommon and this process identified that some outdoor recreation facilities in the County have visitor-servicing deficiencies. Dunamon was identified as one these sites.
Based on the findings of the strategy, Roscommon County Council, Coillte and relevant stakeholders, now wish to develop a masterplan for the area. The land within the scope of the project is in the ownership of Coillte, Roscommon County Council and Inland Fisheries Ireland. The area currently has over 20 accessible fishing stands, a boardwalk, and multiple trails though the Coillte owned forest.
Despite the extensive amenities currently available, the amenity is not widely used. This masterplan will help develop an overall vision for this outdoor recreation amenity, which will in turn help increase opportunities for outdoor recreation both for the local community and the wider population.
Roscommon County Council has commissioned Outdoor Recreation NI to develop a recreation masterplan for Dunamon in County Roscommon. The recreation masterplan will develop a schematic design concept, phased implementation plan and associated costs.
The recreation masterplan will include short, medium, and long-term development options with benefits and deliverable outcomes. These will be developed through the assessment of need, desk research, best practice benchmarking, and future foresight analysis.
Development options will be developed in consultation with key stakeholders including Coillte, Inland Fisheries Ireland, Roscommon County Council, Roscommon Sports Partnership, and Divine Word Missionaries Dunamon Castle, as well as any other relevant stakeholders and the local community.
