Natural Adventure Play

The Challenge

To develop new play areas using natural materials within both Castlewellan and Tollymore Forest Parks that encourage creative play.

The Role

Natural / Adventure Play was a completely new concept to Northern Ireland, therefore we embarked on process of best practice research, engaging with experts across the United Kingdom before applying this learning to both Castlewellan and Tollymore Forest Parks.

Bringing such expertise and knowledge into the organisation allowed us be very clear in our vision for the project and develop an informed plan for delivery for our client Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.  Delivery of the project involved:

• Securing the external funding from the NIEL Challenge Fund
• Procurement of a specialist play company to design, construct and install play areas
• Management of the installation process including liaison with key stakeholders such as local council and Forest Service NI
• To launch and promote the facility via PR and social media

The Results

The two new play areas have become key attractions for families within each forest park:

 

Both have been greeted with great enthusiasm by visitors to the Forest Park
