Mourne Forests Branding

Engaging Visitor Interpretation

The Challenge

To establish a visitor brand for newly developed outdoor recreation products within the Forest Parks located within the Mourne Mountains and Ring of Gullion tourism destination.

The Role

To lead the new brand development on behalf of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, working closely with its graphic design agency McCadden with the aim of:

  • Improving the visitor welcome
  • Proactively encouraging visitors to further explore the forests
  • Providing new visitor signage that was both informative and inspirational
  • Ensuring the interpretation addressed the needs within the Management Plan
  • Ensuring a connection with the already established ‘Mourne Mountains and Ring of Gullion’ brand


The Results

The new brand was launched on behalf of the Council in October 2014 and it has since been reflected within visitor information and signage for:

  • Castlewellan Forest Park – Peace Maze
  • Castlewellan Forest Park – Walking Trails
  • Bunkers Hill – Play Trail and Walking Trail
