Gortin Glen Forest Park

The Challenge

To create a holistic masterplan for Gortin Glen Forest Park including the trail design for a national mountain bike trail centre and new walking trail system.

The Role

To lead the development of a masterplan for the Forest Park on behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.  This involved:

• Procuring and managing a multi-disciplinary team to carry out –
  • Mountain bike trail design (up to 30km)
  • Walk system trail audit and design (up to 20km)
  • Investigation of a road crossing linking both sides of the Forest
• Co-ordinating the development of a spatial masterplan showing the most effective layout and proposed new facilities in visitor hub area
• Providing a range of costed and phased development options for the Forest Park

The Results

• Multi-disciplinary team appointed – Architrail with Capita and RPS
• A total of 60kms of mountain bike trail designed
• 20km walking trail system designed
• Road crossing option identified
• Approval in principle from key partners for development proposals
• Range of costed options presented in a masterplan report
