Board Member Spotlight: Edel Trainor

15th September 2023

Edel joined the board in 2023 but was no stranger to the world or Outdoor Recreation NI, having worked with us on several projects prior to this.

Edel has studied Environmental Science (BSc), Environmental Engineering (PGDip) and Town and Country Planning (MA).  She worked as a Town and Country Planner in Planning Service Headquarters Environmental Unit, then in a local Divisional Planning Office, before moving to a local Council following the Review of Public Administration.  A number of years ago she took up a new role as an Outdoor Recreation Officer in a local Council and is actively involved in delivering recreation infrastructure and facilities in that Council area.

She has volunteered for the National Trust for many years and served on their Regional Advisory Group in Northern Ireland.  She also volunteers as part of the Heart of Down Reds Squirrel Group.  In her spare time, she enjoys sea kayaking and also hill walking on the island of Ireland and abroad such as Nepal, Peru, Morocco and New Zealand.
