The Assistant Marketing Officer will join a busy marketing team working to promote opportunities in outdoor recreation and drive activity tourism. There has never been a better time to join Outdoor Recreation Northern Ireland!

Outdoor Recreation Northern Ireland is a vibrant not-for-profit organisation with the vision to ‘place outdoor recreation at the heart of society’.

We are well established in leading the promotion of outdoor activities within Northern Ireland under a portfolio of consumer brands and deliver projects for a wide range of partners and clients, including Sport NI, NIEA, Tourism NI, local councils and non-government organisations the length and breadth of Northern Ireland and more recently the Republic of Ireland.

  • Delivery of one of Northern Ireland’s biggest road cycling events, the Giant’s Causeway Coast Sportive
  • Delivery of multi-channel marketing activity to promote our consumer brands – OutdoorNI, WalkNI, MountainBikeNI, CycleNI and CanoeNI
  • Delivery of a regional marketing campaign, Get Wet NI, to increase participation in a range of watersports across Northern Ireland
  • Development of a website based on an interactive mapping service which enables visitors to view the outdoor recreation trails and venues across Northern Ireland
  • Development of an engaging consumer brand for Gosford Forest Park
  • The execution of marketing research to develop a marketing strategy for Montalto Estate
  • Development of signage strategies for outdoor recreation sites across Northern Ireland to enhance the visitor’s experience

What will you help us do?

Based in Belfast, you’ll join a small marketing team helping to drive the promotion of outdoor activities across Northern Ireland and deliver a wide range of outdoor recreation projects.

As part of a flexible and dynamic team you will be involved in assisting your colleagues on managing existing brands and their various marketing platforms and campaigns, creating content for those platforms, delivering events to increase participation as well as providing administrative support for the purchase of outdoor experiences and auditing information and databases.

You will also support colleagues in the delivery of a wide range of outdoor recreation projects for our partners and clients which may involve carrying out marketing research to produce visitor focused plans and strategies.

Given the nature of the organisation you will be expected, providing you have the necessary skills, to help your colleagues, on other projects as and when required. The nature of our work inevitably means you will be required to do some evening work and overnight stays.

Who we’re looking for?

We’re looking for an Assistant Marketing Officer who reflects the ambition, drive and dedication of the organisation. Competitive candidates will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

Education and Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Undertaken practical work experience – either paid or voluntary, within the past 24 months
  • Experience of assisting on promotional activities within a project (academic, voluntary or workplace)
  • Experience of dealing with large volumes of information or databases requiring attention to detail (academic, voluntary or workplace)
  • Experience of writing for a variety of audiences e.g. project report, promotional copy for consumers, meeting minutes (academic, voluntary or workplace)

Behaviour and competencies

  • Aptitude to apply a planned approach, think analytically, problem solve and make decisions

  • Knowledge of emerging digital marketing trends
  • IT competency in the use of applications including at a minimum Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and ideally in Adobe Photoshop
  • Has a full current driving licence and use of a car, or access to a form of transport that allows the post holder to meet the requirements of the post in full

What we offer?

We offer the opportunity to work 37 hours a week in a small, flexible and dynamic organisation on a fixed term contract up until 31st March 2021. Your starting salary will be £19,446, this is the start point of a pay scale bracket of £19,446 – £23,111.

In addition, we will give you a contribution towards a NILGOSC pension –  currently 18% of pensionable salary. Your contribution will be 5.8% of pensionable salary.

You will initially get 22 days annual leave plus public holidays, your annual leave increasing with years’ service.

You will also be able to work “flexi” as set out in the Company’s flexible working hours policy.
